USADC story comes back a few years ago, when a special group of citizens, motivated by personnel interests, came together and shared concerns for children with disability in Sudan, giving a positive response to an Italian group of people, who founded the idea of having an association in Khartoum State. In 1999 USADC – Usratuna Sudanese Association for Disabled Children, emerged as outcome of this idea, and since that day it started partnering with OVCI, an Italian NGO, whose name stands for “Volunteer Organization for International Co-Operation”, which had been working in Juba since 1984. With the support and attendance of Members from Italy, OVCI gave a brief introduction about the idea of the association and its objectives. The fist Assembly for the association was conducted on 14th of April 1999, in which the attendance (33 members) worked to approve the constitution, developed the work plan, developed members forms and the election of the introductory Board of Directors. By the end of this first meeting 7 members have been selected through election. On the following board meetings the main concerns of the board was to finalize the registration of the association within the regulations of Humanitarian Aid commission (HAC) as responsible body on this area of concern. USADC registered in HAC on 9/3/2000. USADC is organized in accordance with a formal constitution and run by a General Assembly, Board of Directors and three main working groups or committees: the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) working group, the Rehabilitation Committee and the Vocational Training Committee.
