“We have a big problem: the clinical and educational services for people with low vision, in the target area, are scarce, not accessible, and even fragmented.”
This was the main issue brought to the participants – members of the Sudanese Network for Disability – by the Italian expert Mauro Borin, at the Training in Formulation and Project Reporting held at the Ahfad University on the 4, 5 and 6 of April. The participants had the possibility to deepen their acquaintance on the topic, thanks to the Mauro’s experience and knowledge and through his constant supervision.
The first step, in order to fully understand the complexity of the issue, was to make a problem tree. The participants, divided in groups of 4 people, had to write down the causes and the consequences of the issue. Later on, after having underlined the importance of networking, Mauro explained how to make a stakeholder analysis with the help of a matrix.
These practices, considered to be part of a pre-project analysis, lead the group into the Project Planning and Project Cycle Management (PCM) topic. With the support of a slideshow, Mauro showed to the participants the six Cycle phases, from the initial programming to the final evaluation.
This was a fundamental step, in order to make the participants able to fully understand the Logical Framework structure. This, as an analytical and management instrument used by international NGOs and local governments, is today the principal tool used in the writing, monitoring and evaluation moments of international development projects.
At this stage, the participants were able to write an example of Logical Framework, which was checked and discussed with Mauro. His expertise and experience were fundamental also during the reading and analysis of a real Call for projects, a practical exercise that underlined once more the importance of team working in project writing.
The next step, already planned, will be to prepare and submit a project to an Institutional Donor. Thanks to Mauro’s distant supervision and to the new skills acquired in the training, the Sudan Disability Network has high possibilities of succeeding. Inshallah!
