Community Based Rehabilitation program (CBR)
Definition: Community Based Rehabilitation CBR. Project is a strategy for the society development. It is an effort put forward to change the society with the cooperation of disabled, the family of the disabled and the local community. The administration of this program is carried out by the CBR working group headed by a representative from the board of director, the members of this group are professionals from different background and their main duties are to put the strategic plans for the program and supervising the implementation of the activities at community levels. Local CBR committees are formed in the three targeted areas and they are responsible from motivating the families of the disabled children and community as whole to take their responsibilities towards the disabled children. The third group on this working bodies are the volunteers who are directly deals with the disabled children through home visit on a regular basses, this group attended special training program provide them with the required kills and competencies to interact with the disabled children during the visit. The CBR program before implemented in the three targeted areas in Omdurman, all the working bodies received special training during 2000 – 2002. An Italian expertise Miss Elena Medi organized training package first for Community Based Rehabilitation Working Group (CBRWG), the program was directed towards provide the committee with the competences and skills of forming strategic plans and supervision of the programs and presented some experiences of other countries.
At the second level and after the local committees’ selected, they attended training by Elena medi. The min objective of the training was to provide the committees with the knowledge and skills to supervise the activities at the community level. At the same time the local committee helps in raising the community awareness towards disability issues, to check that the disabled child have the same opportunities in all social services and activities and in disability prevention.
The volunteers were the last group received more specialized training package divided into three modules by the same Italian expertise. 30 volunteers from Bugga and Abbassia and joined in the last module by volunteers from Dar ELsalamm. The main objective of the training was to make the volunteers capable to work with the disable child and the family. Information about the different areas of disabilities presented as theoretical part followed by home visits, collection of data from the community and visited some centers and institutions as practical part. During the training the volunteers has the chance to form the first group of the children in the program. Since that time the home visits started and at the end of every month the volunteers use to submit report reflected their activities with the children to the CBR coordinator. Later the coordinator analysis the reports and identified the needs of the children and the best ways to solve their problems.
History of USADC
USRATUNA SUDANESE ASSOCIATION FOR DISABLED CHILDREN
Special group of citizens motivated by personnel interests came together shared concerns for disabled children and gave positive response to request of the Italian group who founded the idea of having association in Khartoum State. USADC is an extension for USRATUNA – Volunteer Organization for International Co-0peration (OVCI) which is working in Juba since 1984.
With the support and attendance of Members from Italy, they gave brief introduction of the idea of the association and its objectives. The fist Assembly for the association conducted on 14th of April 1999 in which the attendance (33members )work to approve the constitution, develop the work plan, develop members forms and the election of the introductory Board of Directors. By the end of this meeting the first meeting 7 members selected through election.
On the following board meetings the main concerns of the board was to finalize the issue of the registration of the association within the regulations of Humanitarian Aid commission (HAC) as responsible body on this area of concern.
